CD writing problem

Hi all.

A friend has a Compaq laptop which has a DVD/CD-RW drive. She tells me she has copied audio files from the hard disk to a CD through Windows Media Player, and copied files from a CD to the hard disk without problems. But each time she tries to copy ordinary files from the hard disk to a blank CDRW disc or a blank CDR disk an error message appears:

"D:/ is not accessible. Incorrect function."

The drive is able to read from CDs and DVDs without problems. She has been using Maxell blank CDRW/R disks. The operating system is Windows XP home.

Any ideas appreciated?

What software is being used to copy the ordinary files?

Have you formatted cd/rw? Are you using 3rd party software or XPs?

Thanks stlucia and deadneat for your responses. I was able to have a look at the machine this afternoon and found that the "enable CD recording on this drive" tab had not been ticked. Mmmm, strange how we often overlook the obvious, eh (well, I do).

Thanks again.
