My problem: The cd drive will not read cd's at all.

It will read and play dvds. just not cd's

any ideas folks?

I have not changed or reconfigured anything at all.... it just stopped working.
any advice would be great, thank you

You could try running a cleaning disk in case it is dirty, but the DVD and CD functions are separate so it could also be the CD part has failed.

To check and see whether there's a problem with the drive, try putting a data CD in, and then inspect it from Windows Explorer. If you can see all the folders/files on the disk, your drive is probably OK.

Yes if i put a music cd in the drive, i can see the files. I just cannot play them from the drive or by any other means.

"My problem: The cd drive will not read cd's at all. "

Not quite true as if you can "see" them the CD is being read.

If it is only music that you can`t play, perhaps if you tell us what player you are using and how you are trying to play the music we will be able to advise you better.
