CD-RW drive

I have just installed a new CD-RW drive but my PC is recognising it as a CD-ROM drive. How can I change this?

My CD-RW is also a CD-ROM on the PC .

If you can Burn to it, ie create a CD, I would't worry.

Hi Andy
I'm assuming u have a cd rom drive + cd rw drive??I've just fitted 2 new ones on mine. First; Go to system properties/device manager and REMOVE both cd drives. Take off case cover and take out both drives (use a marker pen to ensure which cables go to which sockets) On moth board, check the ur HD is plugged into IDE1. Unplug ur cd drive cable. check back of both cd drives. Your cd re write jumper (little plastic thing) should be set on MASTER and cd rom drive set as SLAVE. re fit ur cd re rite drive, START COMP see if IDE2 recognises it. Then re fit cd rom drive to same ribbon cable (Master is at 1 end, m board connection is at other end, slave is in middle) then connect ur cd drive. RE START and see what happens. It worked for me. If both cd drives have same jumper settings, comp will only regognise 1 drive. Any probs, give me a ring 01942 896399

Usually, the little jumper plugs are set on slave on all cd drives when u buy them. Look closely at back of both cd drives.
