cd rom recognition problem

  kiddology 00:06 05 Aug 2003

Any one know why my pc is not recognising my cd rom? I have a dual ide hard drive with two drives (C+D) don't know if this would make any diff. I have tried all the usual avenues such as add new hardware, trying to rename drives and reloading drivers but nothing seems to work.
Any help would be appreciated.

has it ever worked?if so try :

control panel/system/hardware/device manager then right click the drive and uninstall it.

reboot and windows will detect it and reinstall the drivers for it.

"It did work, tried to uninstal but there is no icon for cd rom under device manager. Instead it says, generic ide disk type 47???
Also under My Computer there is no icon either, just the C+D Drives?"

c and d is normally your hard drive(C:) and cd drive(D:)

generic ide disk type 47 is your hard drive

there should be a listing for cdrom/dvd drives
