Any one know why my pc would suddenly not recognise my cd rom. There are no cd rom icons in my computer and no cd rom icons in the device manager. I have tried re-installing drivers, add new hardware, checked cables etc but nothing seems to work.
Any ideas???

Are the drives being detected by the bios?

Try making a Windows emergency boot disk and booting into dos from that. Then try accessing the drive from dos. If that works, its possibly a windows error and may need a re-install. If not, maybe IDE controller on mobo is faulty? Have you actually changed the cable or just checked to make sure its plugged in correctly?

You may have an IDE cable loose in your computer.
Try going into the BIOs settings and autodetecting your drives and see if they show up.
