CD-ROM Drive not recognised

  Charlie Babbage 15:44 14 Apr 2006

My friend has just had a new CD drive fitted but now it cannot be recognised. The disk drawer will open and close but the CD cannot be read.

In Device Manager, the disk drive is listed as 'Generic IDE Disk Type 47' and it states that the device is working properly (lol!)

When I click the 'Options' tab of Device Manager, all the options are greyed out except 'Removable' and 'DMA'. These have a small box into which a tick can be inserted.

The current drive letter assignment is shown to be 'C:, D:' but I want this to be 'E:' as C: and D: are already allocated to the hard drive. The reserved drive letters are all greyed out.

If anyone can help on this problem it will be much appreciated

Don't worry. We've all done it at one time or another...:-)
