Not sure what to go for.
Intend to install this myself.
Cost not to exceed £150.
Grateful for any advice.

I would go for a DVD writer as it can also burn CD

I got a DVDRW from click here

OEM version for about £55 inc P&P

There are three (I think) writing formats DVD + DVD - and DVD Ram, so you need to decide which one you want.

Some of the newer drives also support dual layer disks and writing (more storage space) but are still quite expensive.

Most drives support + and - some support all three

Should have mentioned that

You may not get burning software with an OEM drive, so you will have to get that extra

Nero burning rom 6 is a good package

Thanks Simon.

I assumed the software would come with the drive..?.

  JonnyTub 19:05 26 Aug 2004

the software usually does in a retail box, oem versions are basically stripped down drives and software free to keep costs down.

As Simon says go for DVD RW.

From click here for from about £50 which will write to + and - so you'll have no problem with discs.
