I have recently replaced faulty CD/DVD drive in my HP Pavillion dv4145 (CD drive type GWA-4082N)

DVD plays OK but drive willnot read/write CD discs.
system check tells me that driver is Ok and working properly. Any ideas?

Try deleting the upper and lower filters click here
Did you uninstall the old CD/DVD drive?
If not
1. Click Start. Click Run. Type cmd and press OK.

2. Type "set DEVMGR_SHOW_DETAILS=1" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.

3. Type "set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1" (without quotation marks) and Press Enter.

4. Type "start devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) and click press Enter.

5. Click View. Click Show hidden devices.

Look for the old CD/DVD drive and right click on it and select Uninstall. Do this for all instances of it, there may be more than one!

Thanks Ditch999
Have tried your solutions but no joy. Can still read/play DVD but not read/write CD data, pictures, audio etc. When trying these computer keeps requesting place disc in drive D.

If it plays DVDs but not CDs then is usually a laser problem in the drive.

As you have replaced the drive I would be tempted to try a new IDE cable if a laptop drive then you can't do that.

take the drive back as faulty if new (LG drives do not have a very good reputation)
