CD & DVD drives not working

  colin1409 21:28 21 Sep 2006

OS - Windows Xp Pro

Installed Maxtor One Touch III backup software on PC. The Retrospect HD wouldn't work due a JIT debugger problem. On Maxtor support site they advised completely uninstalling NET 2.0 framework and reinstalling. Did this and got past JIT debugger problem but now the CD and DVD drives aren't working.

The Device Manager shows them working ok but when I try a CD, audio or data the drive says insert CD in drive even when one is in there.

Any ideas?

PS Not very impressed with the Maxtor OneTouch and Retrospect Express HD 1.1 software. Seems to make the PC sluggish in booting and shutting down.

I think i would uninstall the drive through device manager and reboot, let xp install the drivers.

Have just tried that.

Now, with a CD in each drive I get:-

D:\ is not accessible.
Access is denied.

And the same with E:\
