Can't see my DVD CDwriter, Floppy and USB Drives

Hi - I am running XP pro, I recently installed Norton Antivirus 2006 now my DVD, CD writer, Floppy, Zip, and USB drives don't recognise media and asks to format or install media.
I have had a look at the device manager and all the drives are working properly. The drives were working last week.
I think windows downloaded and installed a few critical update - Norton turned on automatic update rather than download and ask to install.
I think it's a system software problem, can anyone help me with a solution?

I gave up on Norton, caused no end of hassle. Have also had to remove it from friend's PC's. AVG and ZoneAlarm have kept all our systems happy and healthy for ages. Why pay for trouble?

In Add and Remove programs..tick show updates and look for MS update (KB917283)

Now there was a few problems recently with the installation of this update.Maybe this is the problem if you think its an update problem.

If you have Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB917283) there is an update to this NET Framework 2.0 for the following operating system versions: –Download the update (KB922481)

This is a shot in the dark at the moment and may well not be your solution, but i thought i should mention this.

Hope this helps
