I have acquired a fairly elderly but functional PC however it will not see hard drives bigger than 8Gb I have heard about an 8GB barrier but am not too well up on it can anyone tell me is there anything I can do to persuade this PC to see hard drives bigger than 8GB.
Older BIOS have a limit to the amount of space registered. There are several ways of getting round this. 1. update the BIOS, risky and if not done properly can destory your PC. 2. each hard drive manufacturer has a utility for free download that will allow you to install the hard drive at its full capacity. Simply d/load and read the instructions on the website for use. 3. a third party software package such as Partition Magic. This will divide the drive up into chunks that Windows will see.
