Cant repair windows

  BILLYGEORGE 17:04 03 Dec 2008

My XP PC takes about half an hour to start, it keeps crashing while loading windows.
When I got it to start, I tried to repair files using sfc /scanow.
But when I try to, it just flashes on the screen for a fraction of a second, and disappears.
I have also tried to repair using my recovery disk,
But I have to remove SP3 first. I have tried to remove SP3, but it wont let me.
Dont want to do a complete reinstall, but if I do I will not download SP3 again.
Any ideas for fixing either of my problems

Try starting the PC with the shift key held down, when it gets to Windows Try loading a Old Restore Point, to before your Problem

I think you are having Driver Problems. Have you been loading any new Hardware of late?

I changed my motherboard over a week ago, ran OK for 7 days still on old operating system. Thats why I want to do a repair, but as I say cant erase SP3

Can you do a System Restore from before you installed SP3?

sfc /scannow has fixed my start up problem.
My system restore does not go back that far.

If you changed your Motherboard and running the same disc that was used for other motherboard. That is where all your Problems stem from, you chould at least Do a Repair using you Operating System Disc. A restore disc will not work to repair it
