looking to replace my agp nvidia 64mb graphics card. got 300w psu 2.0ghz pentium 4, 512 ram, xp home sp2, but i cant find the speed of the agp slot on my vc31-l motherboard. i am assuming it would be 8x but got no manual and system info searches reveal nothing about speed. i know its an old system but there must be some way to find out? looking to get the GeForce 6200 256mb 8xagp but wary about compatibility issues and psu. any help much appreciated.

john the scone,

click here download and install click on the hardware button in left hand pane, then click on mainboard icon below, then on mainboard in right hand pane. This should show what you are looking for, and a whole lot more as you will see.

It's AGP 4x click here

An 8x card will work in your motherboard and you wont see a performance hit with the level of graphics card that will suit your pc.

Something like an Nvidia geforce 5200 will support AGP 4x and match the rest of your pc.

In actual fact, the AGP 2x, 4x and 8x speeds are not linear.

Just to follow up this thread - Maplin is now offering the ATi Radeon X1650 512MB graphics card in both AGP and PCI-E form at £49.99:

It may, of course, be cheaper elsewhere, but this information came in an e-mail today about the company's sale.
