Can't access second hard drive

Hello there, I wonder if anyone could help me.

As a direct result of having a brain the size of a gnat, I have just had to reformat my C: drive. I have two hard drives in my computer, C & D. Since reinstalling Windows (ME) I can no longer access the D drive. Is there any way I can get it back without having to format it, thereby losing loads of stuff?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated, preferably in the kind of language that you might use to a slightly backward 4-year-old!

Many, many thanks for taking the time to help.

Is D visisble to windows explorer? In what way is it not accessible?

Can you get a boot disk and see if you can run scandisk on it? Try for a good disk.

Sorry for not being clear, it's not there under My Computer.

I'll try though, thank-you.

Just been reading about this problem in the current edition of Computer Active. You need to go into the BIOS. Look at the Mag, it gives full instructions.

That sounds absolutely terrifying!

Nevertheless, I'm off to the newsagent, thanks

After some VERY slow & careful fiddling with the BIOS I'm sorted again. Thanks for your help
