Canon printer wont print black

  sgtdibble 15:42 24 Aug 2003

my nephews Canon BJC 4200 wont print black,
colour is OK but black is distorted, faint and
very lined any ideas to cure it. I could get a new
printer but as his scanner is parallel ported
I would have to get him a USB one thanks Tom>>>

There is "deep printhead cleaning" and nozzle alignment process also - have you done them too?

Hi sgtdibble!

Don't know if this will help, as it applies to BJC8200, but if you're running XP goto Start>Settings>Printers & Faxes>locate the file for the printer, rclick >Properties. This should bring up a dialog box with several tabs, click on Maintenance and the Deep-cleaning Icon, and Print Head Alignment icons are there.

Try Deep Cleaning first, and then print head alignment.

Post back if you've still got probs, and I'm sure someone can help, Toxin.

Just a thought, you dont have the driver set to economy or draft do you?

  sgtdibble 23:52 24 Aug 2003

No its not running XP its on 98se and its to distorted to be set wrong it would not print colour OK if was seems to be malfunction of black
print head so will try what DieSse says when I go
to his house any more suggestion welcome as his
scanner (parallel ported) runs through the printer
and new ones are USB Thanks Tom>>>

If the scanner is parallel port - it will run fine directly from the parallel port in the system, without a printer (better maybe!).

Then you could just add a USB priter on it's own cable.

toxin is quite right about the procedure - it gives it on the Canon web site for all their BJ printers.
