canon install help

Hi, Can you please help me? I am a novice silver surfer and I have just purchased a new (64bit) PC, I have tried to install my Canon IP 4200 printer but it will only accept 32bit and though I have tried to download a driver I have had no success, when I load the software it keeps telling me that it is only compatble with 32bit... any help please..... Alan

Is this the Driver you are downloading? If you download it to the Desktop (for ease of access) and then double-click the file to run it. The printer should be off until you are asked to connect it.

I would try contacting the Canon helpline - they can be very helpful.

Just to clarify, can you confirm that your operating system - as well as the pc processor - is 64bit. More often than not they come with a 32bit operating system installed.

My operating system is Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 64bit new generation

With respect, that is a description of your processor. Your operating system will be something akin to Vista or, less likely, Windows XP. Both of these come in both 32bit and 64bit flavours.

The error messages you have been getting seem consistent with trying to load a 64bit driver on to a 32bit system.

To check your operating system click your Windows key+R and in the Run box type winver - click OK and it will tell you the version of Windows you have.

If it's Vista click here
""How can I tell if my computer is running a 32-bit or a 64-bit version of Windows?

To see if your computer is running 32-bit or 64-bit Windows, do the following:

1. Open System by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking System.

2. Under System, you can view the system type.""
