Cannot Play DVD films on WMPlayer

  birdy11 13:53 02 Jun 2005

When I tried to watch a film on a DVD with WM Player vers.9 (this is the latest version for Windows 2000).
I got the message "There is no Windows 2000 compatible DVD decoder installed on this system".
Where can I get this decoder and how do I install it?
I have seen other windows 2000 computers playing films, but they said: "It just plays them".

Try click here which may solve the problem.

those come with commericial DVD player such as PowerDVD or WinDVD

two free alternatives

(1) Get media player classic click here, a great small program

(2) get free mpeg2 codec, for example K-Lite Codec Pack click here

I downloaded and installed WM9codecs9.exe
as recommended by Graham101 but I still get the "No DVD decoder" message, thanks for replying.

I looked at the "Click here" pages recommended by TomJerry (and very grateful for your advice)but I was confused by all the names and numbers. Could you explain further please.
I am a real beginner with this lot and I do not want to spoil my Computer as it is running fine just now.
