Cannot instal from CD's/Cannot access cab files

  Photographica1 17:52 17 Oct 2003

Hi All, My problem is quite annoying. I have a 1.7GHx celeron based pc, Nvidia GEForce FX 5600, 512 MB Ram, Pioneer 105 DVD writer and LG cd Writer. Windows XP

When I insert a CD to install software - the CD will not auto run. It opens an explorer Box.

When I start the installer exe prog it fails saying it cannot access the cab file. if i manually open the cab file I have no problem. If I copy it to the Hard disk - no problem.

Any ideas would be appreciated - Last time this happened I did a complete re-install to solve it but that seems extreme every couple of months!

open My Computer, right click on the cdrom drive that isnt autorunning.

select properties

select the second tab (Auto Play)

make sure it is set to "prompt me each time to choose an action"

it is possible it is set to one of the other three settings hence why it opens an explorer window.

run Help on your computer do a search for "cd autorun"

choose no 11 in the microsoft knowledge base section. there it tells you how to check the registry for the missing commands.

good luck
