cannot connect to the internet

  gav223 21:11 10 Feb 2011

I have a mac and my wife has a dell inspiron netback.

We have both been on the net for the last 6 months with no problems, but then her laptop had problems connecting to the internet.

I have tried a few things, but nothing works.

Can someone please give me some pointers on what to do.

Many thanks.

A few more details would help
What sort of problems?
Can the laptop login to the Home Page on the Router?
Are there any messages on screen to indicate the problem?
Is it just wireless connection problem?
Can it connect ok using ethernet cable?
etc etc.

Hi lotvic.

It will not connect via wireless or Ethernet.

It states that it is connecting to the router, but does not bring up the google homepage.

I cannot get it to go into the routers homepage.

Everything is fine with the other laptop. This is what I'm using now to write these posts.

Make / model of router?

IE -tools -internet options - connections - LAN settings - tick Automatically detect settings - Press OK

The make and model is: D Link DSL 2640R

It was already ticked in LAN settings.

When you open IE it says internet explorer cannot display this webpage and we have tried a few different things.

<<<I cannot get it to go into the routers homepage>>>

You need to get laptop to do this first because if the router can't see the laptop there is no way the router can connect the laptop to the internet.

I can get into the router from my Mac laptop.

What do I need to change so her netback can connect.

Tr switching off the firewall in the net book to see if it will connect to the router.

The BB modem card may be faulty, as it should connect without problems using a cable
