cannot access cd drives

  Kefty 11:16 01 Dec 2004

I have lost my dvd drive and also cd writer in my computer. In System folder (hardware tab) there are exclamation marks. I have tried deleting them and rebooting but they cant see the drivers to install. Can anyone advise me please?

Make sure the cable from the cd dvd is properly seated in the motherboard

These drives were working an hour ago. How do I get the icons back in My Computer?

Have you tried all the cables,to see if they are inserted correctly at both ends, also have you installed any updated drivers for the mobo, and have you tried reinstalling the IDE controllers again.Do the drives work even tho they are not showing icons?
what OS are you using.

Looks like the system has lost the drivers, why that would be I cannt offer an explanation.
Go to Control/Ssystem/Device manager, click on the drive icon[showing] Yellow and reinstall.
Follow the prompts, the syste may have them on board
or you may hace to dig out the system disk.
If you are 95/8 the Starttup Disk will have them.
If you do not have a startup disk - Go back to Control and make one. If your 2000/XP use the Recovery disk.
