Can power supply, be the reason behind shutdowns?

So the last couple of weeks i have been having trouble with my pc, because it keeps shutting down when gaming. I suspect it might be the powersupply, because even tho my temp is at 53 degress celcius, it will still shutdown, after maybe 2 min of gaming. And this goes to any game

Its a Msi dominator pro

Specs: intel® core™ i7-4720hq cpu @ 2.60ghz voltage nvidia 980m

And btw, i have just recently changed the thermal paste and cleaned it, because i that it was the reason behind it.

Try running the laptop just on the power adaptor in case the battery is bad. You might get some clues if you search for reliability history.
