Can I Mix Memory Brands & DDR Speeds ?

  Tinkey Winkey 19:29 12 Jan 2005

I want to double up my existing ram to 512mb.

I have a PC Chips M848ALU motherboard with one stick of 256mb pc2100 ddr 266.

I'm having trouble finding a matching 256mb stick so
can I use a higher rated ram stick along side it i.e pc2700 ddr 333 ?

Also does it have to be the same brand or can I mix brands and ddr speeds ?

Am I likely to encounter compatibility problems like freezing and crashing etc ?

You can mix brands but not speeds

You can theoretically mix both brands and speeds but will default to lower speeds,of course whther they will run happily together is a dfferent question.

I dont advise ever mixing brands or speeds.PLease note theres 2 versions of your board for v1 redo the search on crucial mem advisor page

every stick listed suitable for your board is there. I would advise you to buy & use only 1 stick of the size you wish to expand to .This enables you to be sure your have no problems by mixing additional strips with it (unless you buy 2 identical strips from crucial They will be matched in every way ensuring trouble free service)& crucial is a brand you can rely on for reliability & service.
