Can I just delete these viruses from my computer?

My daughter's virus scanner will not run and I suspect a virus is causing it. The Kapersky online scanner has detected those below. Should I just delete these from the hard drive?

You may want to try trend micro housecall online scanner as well, I think that removes infected files click here

To answer the question in your title, you cannot just delete a virus from your hard drive. Cunning little devils as they are, they will just return from their hiding place and re-infect.

The only way to remove viruses is to use specific methods and programs such as those given by the previous respondents.

Also, when everything is cleaned up, check that your daughter's virus checker is up to date.

The Virus's you have are sat in your system volume info files so you must first turn off system restore to rid yourself of these then boot into safe mode delete temp internet files then scan with what is installed on your PC and go from there (impressive list i must say)..

are simply quarantined by Spybot. You don't need to worry about them.

If you are still having trouble try Ewido click here - update before scanning.

You also don't really need to worry about viruses in the Restore folder, unless you do a Restore, of course. They can't get back into your system from there, and will eventually get deleted by new restore point creation.

You can clear them out if you want - but it's not really a problem - unless, again, you need to do a restore.

  DieSse 16:25 25 Sep 2005

Also - if you do a Disk Cleanup - any in the temp folder will be deleted anyway - and you should be doing a Cleanup from time to time anyway.

It's also about time you had your own AV running, and updated, in the system, to avoid this happening again. Best AV click here NOD32 free 30 day trial.

Thanks everyone. I think you've cracked it. The A-Squared program seems fantastic. Kaspersky online scanner found 22 viruses, but the A-squared found and deleted over 40!!

Best wishes

John (and grateful daughter!)

The reason that A² found more, is that it finds spyware rather than viruses. You need both types of program to be safe - an AV program and an Anti-Spyware program.
