can I disable incoming pop email

  PhiltheFragger 07:27 06 Jun 2007

Have an accountant friend who has a small network of XP machines. He has a dedicated machine for processing Tax Returns using a specialist program that has a facility to email a copy to the customer and the tax authorities.

The problem is that he does not want to receive any incoming email on this dedicated machine. I cant see a way to turn off incoming mail, and attempts to put in false pop settings give errors.

Any ideas, or is it simpler to set up a dedicated email address for this machine and ask customers not to reply to this address

Cheers Guys

Set up a message rule to delete the messages from the email provider's server when they arrive, PhiltheFragger, how to do that depends on which email client your friend is using.

It will be good old outlook express

What we dont want to do is spread emails over 2 machines, incoming emails may be important so we dont really want to delete them either

presume we cant set up a message rule to send any incoming emails to a different machine.

Instead of deleting it from the server then, PhiltheFragger, use the "Do not download from the server" option. They wont download on that PC but they should on the others.

In OE go to Tools > Message Rules > Mail. When the New Mail Rule dialog box appears:

In the "1. Select the conditions for your rule" section, choose the "For all messages" option.

Then in the "2. Select the actions for your rule" section, choose the "Do not download it from the server" option. Click OK.
