Can I delete a Startup item?

  Pineman100 09:58 02 Dec 2005

I recently uninstalled Spywareblaster from my Win XP SP2 computer, because the automatic update function was causing problems with my firewall (and I now run Microsoft Antispyware anyway). However, uninstalling the Spywareblaster package has not uninstalled the automatic update application (called sbautoupdate.exe), which is not listed in the Add/Remove Programs list. Consequently the update function keeps trying to run.
I have found the following entry in my Startup list in msconfig: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run.
I have unchecked this startup item, but ideally I'd like to get rid of it altogether. Is it possible and safe just to delete it from the startup list?

If you've unticked it and its not causing any further problems after bootup,no reason not to.
