Cakewalk Sonar won't load without DX8.1

I have just bought Cakewalk Sonar music editing and sampling package, but when i try and install it it says "DirectX 8.1 was not found on this system...DirextX 8.1 is needed to install this product...DirectX8.1 setup will now start..Click next"

Problem is, i have directX 9.0 installed on my system, but it obviously doesn't recognize it. There are no other options at the installation point to by-pass it either.

Why is it doing this? Is there any other way around it?

I have looked on the Cakewalk website for support but that product doesn't even have a support page. In fact, not many of their product do.
