Put in a link for us, now that you've opened a second thread.

Better to have bumped the first thread

The clue is in the title and date. I reposted because a responder requested.

I ask the OP to repost as I could not reply more than one sentence to his other thread and still cannot post more than a sentance to this one.

You need three files in the root of C drive to bot XP - Boot .ini, NTDECT .com and NTLDR.

Any one of these corrupt or missing and XP will not boot.

We used to make a rescue floppy and I'm sure you could do the same with a USB drive by replacing A: with the drive letter of your USB drive.

Can you set it to boot from a floppy or bootable USB?

It takes just one floppy disc, or bootable USB

First format a Floppy disc in XP

Run type Format A: /u

Or make a bootable USB

Then open Notepad and copy and Paste this

[boot loader] timeout=-1 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="First harddisk, first partition" /sos

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="First harddisk, second partition" /sos

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="First harddisk, third partition" /sos

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)\WINDOWS="First harddisk, fourth partition" /sos

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Second harddisk, first partition" /sos

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Second harddisk, second partition" /sos

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Second harddisk, third partition" /sos

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Second harddisk, fourth partition" /sos

C:\="Previous Operating System on C:\"

Save as

in Notepad as BOOT .INI (without the space before the .)

Then in search find

Add these to the floppy disc / USB

you can now try starting your computer with the floppy disc / USB

What was stopping the post was trying to write the three file names without the space between the nae and the .inn or .com

Thanks FB, a bit above my pay grade but I'll give it a go.
