Buying overseas

hi all, i am looking to buy the new HTC Shift but cannot seem to find any stockists in the UK yet, i am thinking of purchasing from either the US or Japan if i can find a dealer, could anyone advise me if this is :-
1. Possible
2. Safe
3. Reliable

Also with it being a pc would there be import taxes or customs to worry about.

If you google for HTC Shift, a lot of stockists show up.

Should have added I never seen any adverts from US or Japan I suppose that you would get it a lot cheaper from the US.If you have any friends going over shortly, get them to bring one back for you.Mind you it may be a different power rating from there,So you would have to be careful what you buy.
