Building new pc and need suggestions on RAM

  [DELETED] 20:34 02 Sep 2003

im building a new pc here are main specs:

S478 Intel 865PE ATX A L R - Mainboard

Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz (or 2.6GHz) 478Pin 512k 800MHz FSB - Processor

Sapphire 128 mb 9700 RTL - GFX Card

Maxtor 120 Gb 7200 RPM 8mb cache SATA - HHD

Could someone suggest decent cheapish RAM that will compliment this, as i have read loads of reviews and am still completely confused. my
budget is around 70 quid for 512mb.

You should be looking for 333mhz memory (pc2700) i think, 400mhz memory is both unstable and overpriced at the moment.

have a look at click here or click here or click here

Have you tried Crucial?

The only Intel boards I can find that are similar to yours are the Intel D865PERL click here
and the Intel D865PESO click here.
In both cases 512MB of DDR PC3200 is £70.

Is one of these your board?

the info about unstable memory was from an article in Micromart, but it was a while ago when the 400mhz memory first came out, so maybe things are looking better now.

good luck anyway.

ps for the eclipse computers site you must have Java Virtual Machine installed. if you dont have it, just try the other two sites.

Hmmm i have been running my PC2700 at PC3200 CAS2 for 6 months and my PC isnt unstable. As the FSB of the processor is 800MHz you want the fastest RAM the mobo will take or you are just slowing the processor down.

TwinMOS is both cheap and reliable click here

pc3200 is what you should really go for but it is over priced at the moment, haven't seen anything about it being unstable. maybe people have been using incompatable ram with there mobo's.

check the web site of the maker of ya mobo and see what they recommend on the pc3200 front
