BSOD when installing Windows 7 RC

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum so you'll have to excuss me for any rookie mistakes.

I am trying to install Windows 7 RC which I have on a DVD onto my computer which at the moment is running Vista Business. I did all my backing up, put the DVD in my computer, restarted and booted from the DVD, it will load the files and show the Windows logo and then goes straight to the BSOD with "Stop:0x00000124(0x00000004,0x81A038D4,0x00000000,0x00000000).

I haven't been able to find that exact problem on the internet so I'm hoping someone will be able to help me, I've also tryed updating my nVida drivers, updating vista and disabling both sound drivers and nVida drivers with no luck at all.

It appears you're not alone - a search on Microsoft click here, including ones that refer to a similar error while installing Win7 RC - click here & click here. Hope those are of some help. G

Thank you for your reply. I ran the upgrade advisor and did everything like it said. I think I've narrowed it down to my nVida video card but I don't have an onboard video card, just my luck.

When I had a BSOD (can't remember the exact codes), it turned out the hard drive contained errors. A thorough Chkdsk (Check Disk) scan sorted it. Perhaps you could try the same click here. Don't forget to run a *thorough* scan by choosing the necessary options. You will need to reinstall Win7 RC after the scan completes.

If no joy with the above, try to borrow a suitable ATI-based card from a friend/neighbour/workmate & see if that's any help. If it helps, then you could purchase a low-end ATI-based card click here. I'm sure a place like eBay will have better prices if you don't want to spend too much. G

Well I did thorough Check Disk and I think it corrected a few problems but not the ones I need.
I'm going to try and get hold of an ATI card today.

Thanks for all your help
