Brother FAX-2820 - connect to pc

I have been asked if its possible to link a pc to a Brother FAX-2820 to send faxes directly from the pc.

Does anyone have knowledge of this fax machine?

If so how do I go about connecting them up? Is it simply a matter of usb cable connection?

It appears that we need the next model up, Brother FAX-2920, or similar to connect to a pc?

That would meet the requirement to send faxes only directly from the pc(s)? We have a small network of Windows XP pcs but no server.

Anyone got any experience of this FAX or similar?

Looks like we will need to buy a new fax machine to use this facility so any info would be useful!

Why not use a dialup fax/data modem and Windows fax software?

You can't use broadband with your fax machine, so it would be a much more simple and cheaper alternative.

Windows has always offered excellent fax software, ranging from Windows Messaging (laid out exactly the same as Outlook Express) that came with 98SE and the present Fax Console (XP).

Windows fax software is not the easiest application to use. Its now been decided that the Brother MFC7225N fax machine appears to be suitable.

A fax line is already in place, so if we upgrade to this fax machine all users on the network will be able to fax directly from their pc?

With a fax machine a confirmation receipt is produced too? The fax machine will also printout incoming faxes?

Has anyone got any experience of using this fax machine via a pc?
