Broadband USB to Lan Connection?

What does the expression mean, that I got a faster speed connection on Broadband when I swapped from USB to Lan.

What do I have to do to get a Lan Connection and is it faster?

Some modems connect to the PC via a USB cable, some modems connect to the LAN port on a PC via an ethernet cable. Some modems have both options, on those models, connecting via the lan port gives a better connection than connecting via the USB port (apparently).

The difference is basically using a network card connected to the modem/router giving a LAN (Local Area Network) as opposed to connecting via a USB Modem.
The LAN can be connected either by using an ethernet cable from the Modem/Router to the Network Card or by using Wi-Fi Wireless).
The other big difference is that with a LAN, as the Modem/Router is usually on 24/7 you are connected as soon as you boot the pc, with a USB Modem you have to physically re-connect each time you boot up.
