What is the difference between
broadband speeds as advertised by ISPs such as 512kbps different from
wireless speeds for 802.11g or 802.11b
of 54mbps and 11mbps respectively

There are the same measurement, but you can see that 0.5Mbps (512Kbps) is well below the speeds advertised for wireless b 11mbps or wireless g 54 mbps. Note that the actual speeds achieved on wireless are much less than the advertised but still above the usual consumer broadband speeds. Therefore the wireless devices will not slow down your broadband at the minute.
