Broadband speed v Norton Internet Security

Why is the speed of broadband on my pc so much faster when Norton Internet Security is disabled?
Any advice will be welcomed

Because the files being downloaded are NOT being scanned prior to acceptance by the machine. Any firewall effectively creates a barrier, through which the data has to pass. Just like many people in a crowd trying to squeeze through one door all at the same time.

When you turn the firewall off, you've knocked down the wall, and the doorway has become an (almost) unrestricted chasm.
