Broadband speed improvement in my area

  Dictate 16:50 12 Jun 2014

BTopenreach have recently completed upgrading their local network with fibreoptic cables. My nearest "green cabinet"is less than 200 metres distant. Does this mean that I should expect faster speeds? My supplier is TalkTalk and my average download speed is only 1.6mps.

Yes - ask to be upgraded.

You will only get faster speeds if you upgrade from ADSL (copper wire from Exchange to master socket inside your house) to FTTC (Fibre To The Cabinet then copper wire from cabinet to master socket inside your house)

TalkTalk should offer you FTTC - I'm surprised they haven't already. Have a look at Talktalk website and see if they've got it sorted out for your area yet.

TalkTalk offered me (or anyone else) fibre for £10pm which is reasonable but I already have a fast enough connection for my needs. Suggest you give them a call.

An alternative is to see if BT infinity (fibre) broadband is available to you. Link to checker click here
