Broadband connection

Iam with Wanadoo dial up & want to upgrade to broadband as they have a good offer on.
I have Windows 98 SE.
I have found I dont have a usb port, which I need to connect to the moderm.
An IT friend said the only way would be to buy a ADSL router.
When I rang Wanadoo to upgrade the guy said it wont work that way.
I am very confused, can anyone help? or am I stuck with dial up ?

No reason why a wired router with an ethernet (RJ45) type connectorshould not work. Your m/b may have a network port built in or, alternatively, you need to buy a (cheap) PCI network card.
Or, you could buy a wireless ADSL gateway (ADSL modem + wireless router combined) and a PCI wireless card for your PC.
I don't want to influence your choice of ISP but there have been quite a few unhappy Wanadoo customers reently on these forums.

Or you could install a pci usb card, about £12 from most places. You'd have to check your pc for a spare slot first.
