Boot Screen - S.M.A.R.T Status Bad, Backup and rep

  VAYASEN 09:57 19 Jan 2018

Hi all.

When booting I get the black screen message- Boot Screen - S.M.A.R.T Status Bad, Backup and replace Press F1 to run Setup.

I press F1 and I see a screen with a load of readouts, everything looks ok. I click Save and exit without changing anything and the PC boots fine.

Is there something I should be doing, what is wrong?

Thanks for any advice.

It is an indication of the possibility of your hard drive starting to fail. If I were you I would replace it reasonably soon and clone over your current installation to the new one. Then use the old one in a caddy possibly for non critical storage.

Thank you for the reply.

Ouch, this will be fun, never had to do anything like that before.

Is it easy enough?

Yes its easy enough you can download Macrium Reflect Free to make an image of the drive - make the restore media and then swap drives boot from the restore media and restore the image to the new drive.
