Boot Problems

My PC has a serious error recovery box when I start. It shuts down and I have to push the power button to switch it off. When I try to restart the computer it switches off aby itself. If I wait for approx 5 mins I can get it to restart. Also I have had an IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL box appear. Windows XP Pro operating system.

can occur if bus mastering (Direct Memory Access) is enabled on the IDE devices on your machine. Use the following method to correct the problem.

Download the DMACHECK.EXE file available from Microsoft click here

1. Run the file called DMACHECK.EXE and use it to disable bus mastering on your computer's IDE channels.

2. Restart your computer for the settings to take effect.

If you receive a message stating "DMACHECK.EXE is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine", then bus mastering (DMA) is not supported on your system and is not the cause of the error message.

It's worth trying this - if it doesn't fix the problem come back to this thread for more help.

Downloaded the suggested program but it will not run at all.
