Boot Up Problem

  andywg 15:36 09 Oct 2003

A friend has a Windows ME on her PC and after using it (on the net I think) the next time she tried to boot it up, it could not.

The message came up it could not find any drive to boot from ie c: and to insert disk into a drive. I downloaded an ME boot disc inserted it and after testing it loaded in dos with the C: command line.

Has it got a virus? and what can I do to get things back on track so it will boot from c drive again.

Thanks for the advice

there is the possibility that it has a boot sector virus, If you have prepared your Anti-virus boot disks boot from them and follow the instructions. if you havent got them get them.

it is then possible to repair the Master boot Record using the Fdisk\mbr switch but only if you are sure the disk was prepared with Fdisk in the first place as opposed to a third party tool such as diskwizard.
