Boot up failure

  pinkelephant 20:43 15 Dec 2003

I too am a sufferer of the "unmountable_boot_volume problem similar to presented by "flax1984" on 20/11/03 and have followed advice given there through several different MS downloads, BUT my stop numers are different.
STOP: 0x000000ED (ox827A2900,0xc000009c,0x00000000,0x00000000)
Impossible to enter safe mode and cant see the CD.
Downloaded and installed WINXPS1a_EN_PRO_BF.EXE
and with Cd in place gets Rocovery Console, I think. Applied CHKDSK, got to about 54% then told "The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems. Bootcfg gives "failed.... currupt files"
Where do I go now to get my file out?

Not what you want to hear but your better off doing a clean install and reistall your OS if your running XP if not do a full format then reinstall that OS your using as your HDD sounds to corrupted.

\as you say, not what I wanted, but thanks all the same.

Have you added or partitioned any discs. You may have incorrect entries in the boot.ini file

This STOP error can also be caused by dodgy or incorrect cables.

Sometimes this error is capable of fixing itself. try a few reboots.

**The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems**

Hmm...your hard drive maybe buggered.

Manufacturer of your HDD is?

Sorry, missed that bit.

Cables and partitions go back to early this year, ie checked but not changed.
Hdd is a Maxor DiamondMax Plus 9 80GB ATA 133

A trying to fire up an old 400MB HDD to ship out the files from the downed one - can't find a small enough OS amoungst my discs yet (can't put XP that wants over 1GB)
Any problems likely?

Try simplifying the installation by only intalling the bits you need that should cut it down to size.
