Black screen on second monitor

I returned home today to find my secondary monitor has a black screen.

My primary monitor is VGA and the secondary is DVI. If I change the screen resolution the secondary display flashes on go a second and then goes back again.

I have a Nvidia graphics card, and have re-installed the drivers, but still have the same problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Last time I had a similar problem it was the motor that was faulty

Can you try the monitor on another machine?

I tried plugging the VGA output into the monitor, and it does the same thing.

What's unusual is that it still displays the output on that monitor that I would have expected from the DVI cable - if only for a second.

Is there anything I can try. Are monitor repairable?

Thanks again.

If you have tried the problem monitor connected to both DVI and VGA and you are still seeing the problem then I suggest that the monitor if knackered. As to whether it can be repaired, this is unlikely or even worth it as it would probably cost more than a replacement.

Thanks for the replies.

I tried my second monitor at work and get the same issue, so it looks like it's time for a new monitor.

Thanks again.

You haven't mentioned the age of the 'faulty' monitor. If less than six years there might be a chance of a warranty claim?.
