BIOS Upgrade

Hi There,

I am currently trying to expand my PC by adding an additional Hard Drive of 120gb. I have been told that my BIOS has to be upgraded as presently my PC will only recognise a 40GB Hard Drive.

I am currently trying to upgrade the BIOS on my PC, but do not know what BIOS program I need to download to do this.

I have run a BIOS checker program and it gave me the following details:
BIOS Type: American Megatrends
BIOS Date: 01/20/00
BIOS ID: 63-0316-119900-00101111-071595-WHITNEY-1AACC058
OEM Sign-On: 6WMM7 V2.0G
Super I/O : Winbond 627F/HF rev 3 found at port 2Eh
Chipset : Intel Whitney 82810 rev 3
CPU : Pentium? II With On-Die L2 Cache - 501Mhz
O/S :
Microsoft Windows XP Version: 5.1.2600 Service Pack 1

I would be very grateful for any help.

You need to know the manufacturer of your motherboard, and to get the BIOS update (if available) from their site, along with full instructions.

Normally only the board manufacturer can/will offer BIOS upgrades

There are two other methods (safer than BIOS upgardes in my opinion) for using larger drives than the BIOS supports.

A plug-in hard drive controller - such as those offered by Promise click here

The drive manufacturers software, which "fools" the BIOS and allows the full capacity of the drive to be used.
