I have just finished building a computer with the following spec.

Athlon XP 2600+, 256MB PC2700 DDR RAM, 120GB hard disc, 2nd 8GB hard disc, DVD ROM drive(slave), CD-RW drive(master)

what settings do I need to make in the BIOS, it is a MSI-6712 motherboard.

best advice i can give you on that one would be refer to your motherboard manual for the basic settings and make sure everything is running correctly

I don't understand the processor settings. I've heard various things about multipliers etc.

What's the FSB clock?

the processor has a 333MHz front side bus and the motherboard supports this, but when I look at the CPU FSB clock in the manual it tells me that I can change it between 100~280.

Is this something different?

not sure on this multiplier stuff pentium boards i use have a jumper to switch between 400 and 533
give you a bump to the top hopefully an AMD guru
will pick this up sorry cant be of more help

Sorry I don't know your board but can give you some general advice.

The cpu fsb is always doubled so the 333Mhz is actually 166Mhz. This should be the setting you are looking for either in the bios or a jumper on the motherboard. The chip runs with a clockspeed of 2.13Ghz, i think. So you should be looking for a multiplier setting of 12.5 or 13.0.

166Mhz X 12.5 = 2.075 Ghz

166Mhz X 13.0 = 2.158 Ghz

Your ram is also running at 166

So if you look in the bios for settings 166\166\33 you should be alright. By the way the 33 is your pci clock speed.

thanks, that's cleared up a few things for me
