Better processor or higher RAM

I am looking at a new laptop. Probably a Dell. But I'm confused by their offers at moment. For a similar price and other spec very similar, I can either get an Intel Duo core processor of 1.6Ghz but with only 512RAM. OR. I could get a Pentium M @ 1.7Ghz but has 1024 RAM. I've always had understanding that more RAM is better, but new processors may have changed this. Can anyone comment please? Thanks

Call them and 'Blag' for the Duo and extra RAM, always worth a try and sometime works (especially as they are a bit strapped for cash at the moment...What shares....

You may also wish to consider whether your new laptop will be 'future-proof' and good enough for Vista next year.
