i have just bought an inspiron 500m from Dell through internet. it has centrino processor with windows xp. no seperate graphics card. could i use this laptop for videoediting as this hasn't got any built-in firewire port. how good the quality of editing would be with a PCMCIA firewire card and integreted graphics?

Once you can install a firewire card it should be fine for dv editing. You don't need a super graphics card etc. HD space is the main consideration as 5-6 mins of avi = 1gb. Also it's best to have at least 2 partitions as this helps eliminate conflicts and errors when capturing, ptt (printing to tape) and rendering. The xp editor is basic. Here's a free one click here
