Best package or set up (fast and reliable)

Hello everyone, hope you can help.

We currently pay for our phoneline/cable/internet all from different providers and would like to get faster broadband and a better/cheaper service.

We would also like to upgrade our router (for faster, more reliable internet) and to start using VoIP.

Ok, so a rundown on our set-up at the moment.

- Internet Service Provider = Zen (£25 per month)
- Zen ADSL through our phone line provided by BT (£11 per month)
- Virgin TV (Cable) (L package, £11 per month)
- Seperate office phone line (Virgin, £11 per month)
- Netgear, Wireless ADSL modem gateway DG824M
- We are running 4 laptops, an internet radio (Roberts WM-201) and a wireless printer off this.
- We live in a tall house and our road has cable.

Basically the internet is constantly going down and the radio is constantly buffering. We were thinking if we had a decent broadband connection and fast speeds we could switch to VoIP because it would be a lot cheaper? The laptops are often in use at the same time, and a lot of downloading streaming etc goes on.

We need a set-up that can cope! What do you guys (and girls!) recommend?

Is there a good package where we can just use one provider (ie. save in cost)?
An ISP that provides fast, unlimited downloads?
A router that is fast, secure, up to date, can use VoIP?
Recommended VoIP phones? Expensive?
Could we use our old router as a booster?

Sorry this post is a bit of an essay, it's all a bit of a minefield. Really hope you can help.

It is a minefield out there with isp's, some are happy with a particular isp and some have problems with them.
I am with Orange and have no problems with them using their Livebox, They can do a complete package for about £18/month that includes phone, internet (up to 8 meg) unlimited, VOIP with free calls to all 01 and 02 numbers and about 100 international destinations. Some like orange and others don't, there are other isp's that have similar packages.

have you tried any of the Virgin packages.?

May not be the cheapest, but the internet connection is second to none.

thanks Jak and Joe. I think one of the virgin packages could suit us. Great to know that the internet connection is good, is that because they use cable and not ADSL? Therefore more reliable?

What about a good router?
