i'm after a new graphics card that will handle the most up to date games on the market, the only problem is, being a poor and in debt student, i only have sub £100 to spend! can anyone give me some advice for the cards i should be looking out for?

A great find clayton otherwise you will be looking for an ATI Radeon 9000

put a machine to-gether a couple of mounths ago, was offered 128 meg, but went for above for the fact its easy to over-clock. see or go to xtec systems x-setup. still hav'nt though cos all though runnin some pretty modern games had no probs up to now.

If you want a Radeon I've been told to look out for the Sapphire versions as they're cheaper but still great cards... I've just gone for the GF4 Ti4200 over the 9000Pro though as it's meant to be better for gamers and every review I've read puts the GF over the Radeon (Apart from PCA, but the price has dropped since then). Have a look at if you're interested in either.

Oh, advancing on closhty's point, the Ti4200 can apparently be happily clocked to Ti4600 speeds too... another selling point.

A good article to review performance (although not UK prices) is t click here - I think you were given an excellent link by Clayton for price.

Whats the rest of your system comprise of ? Personally I would go for the Geforce 4 TI 4200 as linked to above alternatively look up a company called crucial and take a look at there Radion 8500 LE. If the rest of your system will go well with it. Theres no point putting either of the above cards in a PC with 128 MB ram and a 400 Mhz celeron.

gainward geforce 4 ti4200 £105 go for the 64mb version over the 128mb as the memory on the 128 is slower than 64.

Dont bu any geforce that says MX on it!!!

No DX8 functionality!

Plus there are 128mb 4200's out now with faster memory...

sorry, no time to search.
