Ensure you buy one with an optical zoom lens. Digital zooms are no good. Canon produce the best picture quality

Again this is almost an impossible question to answer, as we will all recommend the one we have.

For example I have a Minolta Z1. A really good camera and have printed excellent prints up to A4 size.

But check out this site for all digital cameras

and pick your own Resolution, Brand name and Price Range.

You know your budget, so why not consider looking at discontinued models, wher a maker has broyugh out a revised version with only marginal differences.

Specialize in such kit from Fuji/Olympus and others brand new kit at half price very often
I have obtained various models for my family at silly prices- a 1mp FUJI point and shoot for 29.99
for example
My latest only a week or so ago Olympus Camedia
C220ZOOM for 49.99
Can ya beat it!

I would recomend Canon, but whichever brand you choose try to get one that takes AA batteries.
