Best buys laptop....need help!

Hey all,

I really hope everyone can give me some advice here, firstly, i need a laptop that is going to be bascially my entertainment centre for 3 months while im in Canada. I am a bit of a power user, and would really like the machine to play 3D games, such as half-life 2 and doom 3.....the only problem, my budget is around £600 (sharp intake of breath) i know its a big ask for a laptop that can run these titles for that price, but here's what i have so far...

ASUS A6KM-Q034H (click here) its a 64bit with integrated webcam with some nice bits, the graphics card is an Nvidia 7300....had trouble researching this card...if anyone has this laptop or knows anything about the graphics card i'd be very interested to hear from you!

Thanks all, I look forward to hearing if anyone else knows of anything good!

Sorry all, posted this in the wrong forum, my bad!

7300 is not much good, you need to spend a lot more for gaming.

I've read conflicting things about the 7300, i've currently got a AcerTravelMate 4072....which has the intel 900 graphics accelerator, but only 512ram, do you think the ASUS laptop would be much improvement?

DO you have any suggestions for a middle ground?

Thanks for the reply by the way!

intel 900 sounds like integrated graphics, that means worse than the 7300. I would say for gaming minimum a go7600.

Do you happen to know of any laptops with that card in that i could have a look at?

yes your right, the intel chipset is integrated, i think the 7300 comes in 128/256 dedicated mem with hypermem to boost the performace, although i might be wrong about that....i've also read that it has 64meg and uses the memory boost to acheive the 128/256 configs...

thanks for your help!

you can get an acer aspire 5652wlmi with 100 hard drive, 1g ram, and 7600 for £948. 7300 just has not got the power even if it boosted.

Thanks Citadel, i'll look into those now, do you have any other suggestions at all? Thank you for the info about the 7300, the ASUS laptop seemed good considering the other features but like you say the graphics card isn't really up to it....although it might be an improvement to what i have currently?
