Brilliant - thanks! Although in fairnes Rotenone was asking for a recommendation, not where he could find books.

Forget the books the best way to learn an op system is to play with it.

Plenty of warning messages if you try and do something stupid.

The last computer book I bought was "Understanding PASCAL Programming" at Uni in 1985.

It cost £20. My rent at the time was £13 pw.
Never used it after my course finished.

I did steal a surplus printed manual for DOS from work, and that was quite useful for a while.

Best advice is already given. Mess around.
First, Google "how do I create a restore point"

Frequent a few forums, buy a magazine every now and again.
I find ComputerActive too simplistic, but I do like MicroMart and OF course PCAdvisor.
